Corneal Refractive
Therapy (CRT)
Corneal
Refractive Therapy (CRT) is also known as Vision Shaping Treatment, Corneal
Molding (CM), and Orthokeratology (Ortho-K). These contact lenses are
fitted to gently change the shape of the eye's front surface to temporarily
correct vision while you sleep... and, in the morning, just remove them to
get clear vision all day long.
.
FYI: This can be used for people with up to -6.00D and moderate astigmatism. It can work for people who need bifocals too.
FDA Approved
The FDA approved CRT in 2002, after extensive research showed it to be safe and effective. It's a great option for people with dry eyes or those unable to wear contact lenses in the past. It's a great alternative for people who wanted LASIK, but scared about eye surgery!
FYI: Dr. Kurtin was one of the first in DFW to receive special certification in 2002, per the FDA, to prescibe CRT. The FDA cautions that only certified doctors are authorized to fit these lenses-- however, many doctors will fit 'off-label' lenses not approved by the FDA--due to cost.
Who
can wear CRT?
It's perfect for children (7 years old+),, teens and adults who find eyeglasses unattractive, contact lenses a hassle, or active people who love to play sports. Studies show it may even help slow vision changes--especially for children whose prescriptions keep getting weaker.
Affordable
Initial fees for CRT, include your exam, follow
up care, one pair of Refractive Therapy lenses, corneal
topography and
instructions on use. The average cost is about $800 per eye. These fees no longer
apply after you are fit.
Enjoy 0 % interest financing for up to 18 months if qualified. Vision
insurance will sometimes cover part of cost.
FYI: A free consultation is offered after your eye exam. Ask about our 20/20 referral reward program.
Just moved here, and need
a CRT doctor? Want another opinion? We can help.
Just come in for an eye exam with your CRT or Ortho-K lenses fitted elsewhere,
and the doctors here will take over.
Research
in Vision
Ongoing
research is studying the use of certain Vitamin B eye drops to help keep vision
corrected, perhaps, without having to wear CRT lenses again. In theory, once
the vision is achieved that you like with CRT, then eye drops are then
applied!
